Because of its finger touch interface, touch screen, TV out and other innovative features, the 988 mobile phone is among the most popular of the iPhone clones. Here is a quick review of features, appearance, performance, and pricing on this rare TV iPhone clone:

In a nutshell, the CECT A988 (sometimes called only A988 or the 988), is one of the few Chinese iClones with what is called the “TV out” feature. This means that you can connect your phone to your TV so that you can watch video or media on the big screen without having to squint to view it on your phone. Personally, I find this very handy to show grandparents children’s occasions right after they happen while everyone is still excited. The whole process only takes a few seconds and is much easier than lugging out and hooking up my large video camera.

In case you are not familiar with CECT, this is the Chinese manufacturer who became famous for copying and improving upon the iPhone via the best selling CECT P168. Since that time, the company has rolled out numerous variations of these phones, trying to give a variety of choices to consumers. Although the clones differ slightly in the amount of features they have, all are unlocked so that you can use whichever carrier you wish, all have a removable battery and additional speakers, and almost all are dual sim which allows you two phone numbers or plans on one cell phone. These phones never need drivers or software. They just read you GSM sim card.

The A988 is a quad band phone. It works on most all GSM networks worldwide. It also has all of the features that made the iPhone popular (plus extras) including: Bluetooth; a 3.0 inch LCD finger touch screen; fully functioning MP3/MP4 players; a 1.3 mega pixel camera and video recorder; 3D surround sound speakers; full web browsing capabilities; and 1GB of memory built in that is expandable to 2GB. Of course, it also has the TV out feature, which is why I think most people are intrigued by it in the first place.

In terms of appearance, this clone looks a bit different from most other mainstream clones. The 988 is one of the rare iClones with a small keyboard and scroll bar on the phone. I personally prefer this for texting and scrolling. There are no logos anywhere on the phone. “3D Stereo Sound” is written on the back. Most people seem to prefer this simple style rather than a fake logo in some prominent location.

From my own use, I find this phone to be a very solid, high quality cell phone. It is small but quick and sleek. It can do every single thing the iPhone can do and then some. I have not found any thing lacking on it.

This model is hanging out in the $100 range, which makes it among the cheapest of the clones and a decent bargain, considering the features and AT&T savings.
