44% of used devices still contain sensitive info
A study which combed over 160 BlackBerrys revealed that many of them still had sensitive information such as financial, banking, and corporate details still on them. Based on what they could dig up, the researchers could figure out who the employer and previous owner were on a quarter of the devices, while while the data on 43% of the devices could threaten the companies in question. This is fairly surprising, since enterprise IT admins have the ability to remotely wipe BlackBerrys so long as the server software is up to date. If BlackBerry, one of the most security-conscious handsets out there, is having issues keeping sensitive material under wraps, I wonder how other platforms would fare in a similar study.
BlackBerry Bold coming to Japan early 2009
While it might feel like it’s taking awhile for the BlackBerry 9000 to hit American shores, Japan isn’t slated to get the Bold until early 2009 through NTT DoCoMo. The orient has proven to be a tricky market for RIM, with language, cultural and competitive barriers to overcome, but the BlackBerry Bold is a big player, and RIM VP Don Morrison seems to think the Japanese enterprise space is “an essentially still wide open market” ripe for the picking once localization is completed. The Bold is packing Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, a HVGA screen, full QWERTY keypad in a candybar format, and could potentially set the foundation for RIM’s other upcoming models (like the Flip Pearl, the new Curve, and the Storm) in Japan.
Meizu M8 Due Out in December
The anticipated launch of the Meizu M8 is coming soon, at least before the end of 2008 from all I can tell. The Taiwan based Geek IT Store will be launching the so-called ‘iPhone Killer’ (I’ve heard that before) starting in the Chinese market and the Indian market to follow, starting in December.
AT&T BlackBerry Bold Coming in October?
The last we heard, the AT&T Bold was rumored to be delayed till November. AT&T acknowledged early that they would carry the device, yet it appears they may be one of the last to actually offer it up for purchase… I’m sure a lot of you are getting tired of the rumors, speculation and delay… After all, 30 other countries around the world already have the Bold in their BlackBerry lovin’ hands, but the US is still waiting!
Say goodbye to pain with Mother’s Kiss needle-free injection
If the dreaded syringe has been keeping you away from the doc, turn to Mother’s Kiss. Living up to its name, the syringe uses vials or ampules instead of needles to painlessly inject the medication. A brainchild of Japanese inventor Yoshoi Oyama, Mother’s Kiss would replace existing pain-free injections that use air/gas pressure for the same purpose.
Nissan BR23C: The robot car that uses bee strategy to prevent collisions
The best working designs are always inspired from nature, since the rules of adaptation and survival are inherent in its creatures. We have, in the past, seen manufacturers and designers taking cues from animals to create trend-setting technologies. Nissan jumps on the bandwagon now, with the Biomimetric Car Robot Drive or BR23C. The robot car takes after the most efficient collision-evaders – bees. The technology is being developed to prevent car collisions and thereby eliminate accident casualties.
