LG and SanDisk Work Together on Content Protection Scheme
LG and SanDisk have created a new content protection service that will allow mobile network operators to disseminate or preload content onto removable memory cards — such as microSD or M2 — in mobile phones. The content could not, however, be played in phones and/or devices that are not part of the the operator’s network. In other words, if content is pushed from T-Mobile, it could be used on other T-Mobile phones, but not phones from AT&T. It works by allowing IP connectivity to the memory card in the handset. The memory card serves as a network node that is remotely manageable by the operator using industry-standard TCP/IP and OMA Smart Card Web Server. This service enables memory cards to authenticate user credentials via data on the SIM card. No network operators have said they will use or deploy this technology.Read more from the sourceRelated Keywords for this posts:cell phone batteries, international call, store, prepaid service

G2 (and G3!) rumours surface, debate over release date
It’s no secret that, badass as the T-Mobile G1 is, it’s not a perfect device. The keyboard’s a little clunky, the GPS is a bit iffy from time to time, and there’s a fair bit of functionality missing out of the gate. That said, it’s the closest competitor we’ve had to the iPhone’s dominance, so many people are praying for a decent second iteration of the device.

Kogan Agora, the next Google Android smartphone, to ship next month
Google’s open-source Android cell phone operating system has just one taker so far, the T-Mobile G1, but that’s about to change. Now there’s a new kid on the block, the Agora from Aussie cell phone maker Kogan.

Built like a cross between a Blackberry Bold, a Samsung Blackjack, and a Motorola Q, the smartphone will have a 2.5-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, and that sweet Qwerty keyboard that we miss in other touchscreen phones. It’s set for a January 29, 2009 ship date and now available for pre-order. It’ll be available unlocked for around $300 including international shipping.

But with plenty of feature-packed options available this holiday season, ranging from the consumer-friendly iPhone to the more business-oriented BlackBerry Bold, chances are you can find a phone that’s a better gift than a reindeer sweater.

Living With a BlackBerry Bold
A few weeks ago, I traded in my old reliable BlackBerry for a new BlackBerry Bold, and my experiences to date have been mostly very positive. There’s a lot to like about the new device - and one particularly notable downside.

The Bold is one of a few relatively new phones I’ve been taking with me everywhere for the past few weeks - the others are the T-Mobile G1 Android phone and the popular iPhone 3G. The BlackBerry Bold really isn’t meant is BlackBerry’s answer to the iPhone; that would more be the Storm. (I just got one of those, so let me carry it for a bit, and I’ll let you know what I think).
